Summary
I audited and conducted user research to create lo-fi wireframes and then developed a hi-fi prototype demonstrating a task flow for orbit determination, resulting in a functional sample app, Flight Dynamic Services, that reduces cognitive load by simplifying navigation, reducing repetitive tasks, and improving scan ability.
Insight
Interoperable systems require data flow mapping to utilize information across systems
Understanding what data is collected and shared reveals the relationship between tasks, outcomes, and shared connections
Innovation comes from understanding shared connections and bridging the gap between known limitations and desired outcomes
Outcome
The wireframes and prototype developed demonstrated the effectiveness of UX Designers combining a design system with industry specialization to produce functional solutions to complex enterprise-level issues. The Flight Dynamics Services app has been utilized in several contracts as a foundational knowledge source for expanding current space domain capabilities.
Lessons Learned
Intuitive controls align with prior platforms, providing familiar mental models
Task optimization is the system doing the work so the user can select the next action
Document design limitations for future roadmaps and action plans
Design Artifact: Navigation Interactions
This is a design artifact I used to collaborate with the dev team, illustrating navigation interaction details. Using a design system allowed me to quickly produce a hi-fi mockup illustrating how the UI elements will appear and function, which elicited critiques and feasibility feedback before investing in code development.
