Summary

I conducted research and design activities revealing project obstacles and usability issues preventing community engagement. I utilized heuristic evaluations, workflow audits, user ecosystem mapping, and task analysis to identify process improvements and create iterate mockups for design critiques.

Insight

  • Continuous research provides structure for current dev obstacles to influence future design iterations incorporating lessons learned

  • User engagement comes from a platform that is easy to use, integrate into existing workflows, and provides relevant information

  • Incremental improvement is only sustainable if you are solving the right problem

Outcome

Continuous Research provided structure for parallel development tracks to improve the current UI and prepare for UX research and design refinement activities. The wiki platform already solves a massive problem, information silos; the goal now is solving process and technical obstacles that prevent transitioning to the wiki solution.

Lessons Learned

  • Continuous user outreach to address real-world problems and refine wiki capabilities

  • Craft intuitive platform features that are easy to implement and adjust content

  • Start ROI metrics now; changing or prioritizing other measurements later is okay

Design Artifact: Wireframe Mockup

A lo-fi wireframe mockup illustrating how the refined layout of UI elements improves the page template. The wireframe utilizes proximity to create visual hierarchy and to clarify primary/ secondary navigation for accessing information and completing routine tasks.
