Summary

I researched, designed, and usability tested a proof of concept for an Office Book Club app using the no-code/ low-code platform Glide App resulting in a functional App; however, my limited technical skills caused several false starts and duplicated efforts.

Insight

  • Lack of relational database technical knowledge resulted in inefficient database design and duplicated effort

Outcome

Utilizing research and brainstorming practices to gather user insights for developing wireframes for usability testing resulting in a functional app and a roadmap for developing future features like personal notes, author biography, and chat.

Lessons Learned

  • Knowing basic principals of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript were useful

  • Developing Apps requires knowing best practices and standards

  • Learning a new technology requires more time than anticipated

Design Artifact: Interactive Prototype

Low-fidelity wireframe used during usability testing to determine if the 3 identified user-task were the primary actions users expected

Usability testing revealed that users often clicked on the book cover image expecting to find summary information or additional novels in the series
