Summary

I developed and expanded the capabilities of the AstroUX Design System by streamlining patterns and components through conducting competitor analysis, benchmarking, and user research, which improved the system's information architecture, documentation, and implementation guidelines.

Insight

  • Collaboration with the dev team is essential from the beginning to translate designs into naming structures, component tokens, and reusable code

Outcome

My research was an audit review that allowed me to evaluate the design system's state and prioritize improvement areas aligning with trends, internal backlog, and community participation, revealing real-world use cases and requested capabilities.

Lessons Learned

  • A design system is only as good as its implementation guidelines

  • Proper documentation shows how to implement a component and its rationality

  • Usable documentation displays component usage and specs together

Design Artifact: Component Library Sandbox

The Component Library Sandbox is an interactive demo that allows developers and designers to view specifications and usage guidelines together prevent
